About me

Deborah Flowers

Deborah Flowers, therapist, smiling while sitting on a beige couch in a room with a wooden wall.

I believe in working alongside you, with compassion and respect, to help you use your strengths and find balance.

With a Masters in Counselling Psychology and over 10 years of experience in education and counselling, I support children, teens, adults, and families through life’s challenges.

  • Canadian Certified Counsellor

  • Masters in Counselling Psychology – Yorkville University

  • Bachelors of Education – Trinity Western University

  • Licensed teacher with Special Education and English Language Learning certifications

  • Fluent in English and Mandarin Chinese

My background includes working in child and youth mental health and teaching in cross-cultural settings. These experiences shaped my deep commitment to culturally sensitive counselling.

Why work with me?

There are many counsellors out there, and finding the right fit is important. What sets my work apart is the space I create for you to feel safe, respected, and supported at your own pace. My approach is always personalized — I draw from CBT, DBT, EFT, SFT, and EMDR to match your unique needs and goals rather than following a one-size-fits-all model.

Because I’ve lived and worked cross-culturally, I bring a deep understanding of the complexities of identity, transition, and belonging. Along with my experience as both a counsellor and an educator for more than a decade, I’m able to support individuals and families with compassion and practical tools.

Above all, I believe therapy should be accessible. I offer secure online counselling across Canada, and in-person sessions in Three Hills, Alberta (by appointment) so you can access support in the way that works best for you.

Counselling Services

Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or relationship stress as an individual, therapy provides a safe space to explore challenges and build new ways of coping. My goal is to help you feel grounded, confident, and supported — no matter what you’re facing.

Working together, we’ll use evidence-based therapies like CBT, DBT, EFT, Solution-Focused Therapy, and EMDR to help you move forward. I provide counselling for children (including play therapy), adolescents (13+), and adults, with flexible online sessions across Canada and in-person appointments in Three Hills, Alberta.

  • Past experiences can leave lasting scars — sometimes showing up as triggers, nightmares, physical symptoms, or feeling “stuck.” Using a trauma-informed approach and evidence-based methods like EMDR, we’ll gently process those experiences so you can heal, reduce distress, and feel safer in your own skin.

  • Anxiety can feel like your mind is always racing — with worry, panic, or “what if” thoughts that never turn off. In our sessions, we’ll work on calming those thoughts, building practical coping skills, and learning to trust yourself again. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, present, and aware of what you can control in your life.

  • When sadness becomes heavy and constant, it can feel impossible to find joy or motivation. Together, we’ll explore what’s weighing you down and create tools to bring relief and hope. I’ll support you in building healthier routines, reframing negative self-talk, and finding small steps that make a big difference.

  • If you often feel “not enough” or struggle with who you are, therapy can help rebuild confidence and self-acceptance. We’ll work on uncovering your strengths, creating healthy boundaries, and learning to value yourself. For those navigating cultural or identity challenges, I offer a space that is respectful, curious, and affirming.

  • Family life can be a source of strength — and stress. Family Counselling offers practical support for parenting challenges, domestic abuse, conflict, blended family adjustments, and communication struggles, so home feels calmer, safer, and more connected.

With children, I use play-based and age-appropriate talk therapy to help them express big feelings, reduce anxiety, improve behaviour, and build skills for emotion regulation, self-esteem, school issues, peer conflict, grief, and transitions.

  • Teens today face unique pressures — from school stress to identity struggles to the challenges of social media. I create a safe, supportive space where adolescents can talk openly, develop resilience, and build healthier ways to manage emotions, relationships, and life transitions.

  • Big changes — moving, career shifts, family changes, or cultural transitions — can leave you feeling unsettled. Life Transitions Counselling offers a space to process those changes, lower stress, and find clarity in your next steps. You’ll leave with practical coping strategies that reduce overwhelm and help you feel more balanced.

Grief is unpredictable and incredibly challenging. In Grief Counselling, we will explore your grief process and provide a safe space to share and work through the loss. Together, we will strategize practical coping techniques for the hurt and stress so that you can function and focus in your day-to-day.

  • Addiction Counselling is a supportive, confidential space where you can talk openly about what’s been going on, at your own pace, without fear of judgment. Together, we explore the patterns, emotions, and experiences connected to substance use or behaviours, while keeping your goals and values at the centre of the work. Counselling focuses not just on reducing harm or changing habits, but on understanding what the addiction has meant in your life— i.e. exploring past traumas or adverse experiences and refocusing on what you need moving forward. Above all, it’s a collaborative process that honours your strengths, respects your autonomy, and supports you in building a life that feels healthier and more meaningful to you.

If you don’t see your exact challenge listed above, or if you’re unsure which type of support is right for you, that’s completely okay. Many people come to counselling not knowing where to begin.

Simply reach out, and together we’ll figure out the best way forward.

  • Your first session is a calm, conversational intake. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you in, your goals, what’s worked (and hasn’t) before, and what you’d like to change. I’ll explain confidentiality, answer questions, and we’ll agree on a plan that moves at your pace. You’ll leave with practical next steps and a sense of what ongoing support will look like.

  • I provide online counselling across Canada and in-person sessions in Three Hills, Alberta (by appointment).

  • It varies by person and goal.

In our first session we’ll set clear objectives, then review progress after 3–4 sessions. Many people feel relief within 4–6 sessions and complete a focused round in 8–12, especially with CBT or Solution-Focused work. Trauma processing/EMDR may be shorter or done in phases and can take longer depending on history and stability. We usually start weekly, then taper to bi-weekly or monthly as things improve.

We’ll decide the pace together based on your needs, schedule, and budget — and you can pause or return anytime.
